Hey what’s up guys? My name is Sal, and I produce the Expedition Log Series (or ExLog, for short). My interests for this channel will focus primarily on an in depth tour of dead malls, dying malls, living malls, historical and abandoned places, and possibly more! A full historical account for each place is narrated by me, and all research and due diligence to verify the facts presented are triple checked. So, come take a walk with me and let's go on an expedition!

Back to watch this one again! So upset I never visited this place when we lived in Pittsburgh. I really wish there was a place like this to visit down in my area of SC. I would go often. 😂
ain't dere no mo'....
The decay of society captured in HD. What a time to be alive
I grew up two blocks away and was a young elementary school kid when it was built. I had friends who lived with their backyards bordering the property, and they always had a front row view of everything that ever happened in this space. It was always controversial about how this large tract of land should be used. To start it was wetlands that had multiple streams that came into a single wetlands and then created another bigger stream that fed into the Great South Bay that was between a half mile and mile south. Today the area would be protected by environmental regulations and laws, but it was the late ‘60’s/early ‘70’s so it didn’t matter. I had one experience where I went into this “wild land”. I was a kindergarten student and my older sister was visiting her friends who lived with their backyard up against the property line. Being that this was like 1970, I was an unsupervised 5 year old child who was paired up to play with my sisters younger siblings, so naturally us curious kids went venturing into this place that all the older kids called “The Pit”. The Pit was a well known hang out and drinking place for the HS kids in the day, but since we all had HS siblings we thought we were safe. Unbeknownst to us (as nobody ever admitted that they had ever gone into the forbidden land), this wild place truly was wild and it had a few packs of stray dogs that were extremely vicious. Well, they quickly caught our scent and were immediately heading towards us!!. Thank goodness that we were true scaredy cats and had not ventured too far into this wild land and were able to ran as fast as we could without falling and made it into my friends back door! We saw this film about the Sunrise Mall, but I wish there was a video of “The Pit” that was there before the mall
I used to work in that mall at some Telemarketing agency called "Etech, inc.". I remember being too broke too get something to eat during lunch (because they didn't pay me enough), and so I just walked through the mall for the entirety of my lunch break. Lol. Also spent A LOT of time here during my childhood, I remember going to this place as being a little treat that my parents would give me when I was being good, and then later on in my teenage years, I would just ask my mom to drive me here and drop me off, so I could just wonder around and listen to music on my CD walkman (I was really big on people watching, lol). I don't what it is about this whole appropriation and "appealing" to the hispanic crowd thing that just feels.... wrong to me. I have A LOT of memories associated with this place, and a WHOLE butt load of "nostalgia energy" banked here, but the moment that they attempt to "transition" it into appealing more to the hispanic crowd is the very moment that all those memories get covered in a weird kinda sludge. And it just puts the area in a weird grey area neither demographic (hispanic or white) wants to take ownership of.
I'm a Long Island native: Great Neck to be exact. I've never been to this mall and most of the other malls on Long Island. For me it was Roosevelt Field and occasionally Green Acres. I went to the Broadway Mall at The Mid Island Shopping Plaza in Hicksville once. All the store names-Gertz, Stern's, A & S, Korvettes, The Whiz-bring back memories of the '70s, 80s, and '90s. Definitely representative of bygone era.
Glimcher realty also owned Eastland Mall in Charlotte, NC unfortunately torn down in 2013, a very interesting mall used to have an ice skating rink
Enjoyed this video but was so crazy to see the posters for The WB. I worked for the network from 2001-2006 as a video editor in the promotions department. I worked on Reba, Gilmore Girls and many others during that time. The network went away in September 2006 after merging with UPN to become The CW. Really neat to see those were still up in there when you filmed it which was well after the network was gone.
love your vids sal ❤
My mom use to take me and my siblings to this mall in the 90s. My dad would take us to the arcade. I remember it having a pet store with animals in it. There was a roller skate ring somewhere near the mall that’s not around anymore. Good times man
Man growing up and discovered they removed the arcade, indoor gym(basketball court), monster zone? That mail was so lifeless.
And they removed Jasper in like 2000s
This place looks SO FUCKING AWESOME. It screams and reminds me of The 90’s Batman: The Animated Series.
It never did too well except maybe in the beginning. It was just too small to compete with the suburban malls it was trying to lure people away from to come downtown. I went there a few times but there just wasn't much there.
Missed ya sal
Seeing escalators in the mall will always be a sight for me. You know how they work but I find it so interesting that someone decided to invent and design such a thing. The automatic stair.
winn dixie
I remember seeing the ducks in this mall as a child
I am a Bicentennial turning 50 in 2 years and many malls opened and thrived in our childhood and teen years. My mall was Jamestown in St. Louis. This mall is gorgeous and it's a darn shame what's happening. Sal, you rock this series.
I worked at H&S Pogues in the 70s.
When I was a kid I think this tower lit up around Christmas time in the 80s and played Axel F it was amazing!
Wow. What a moldy mess. Now everyone will hassle Ace at his office. 😅 Good to see you again. Thanks
Oh that arcade bring back memories of the malls I went to. I love that classic hydro thunder cabinet.
I used to work at that big insurance company next door. During the company's 10k steps a day campaign, tons of employees (myself included) would use our lunch breaks to log our steps. I watched that mall go from having Time Out on the Court to that ridiculous underwater theme (I worked at the insurance co at that time) in 2006-7 ish. Maybe 2008. It was definitely around the recession. Anyway, I just drove past there on June 19th 2024 because the kids wanted to go in one last time, but all entrances are boarded up now.
Sal, my friend, PLEASE take ur health seriously... Carry your face-covering or a decent respirator on you at all times when entering these buildings... Carry a backpack or something with things to help keep you healthy, cuz if you get too sick [or, Gawd forbid, DIE] from an airborne ailment, who's gonna post vids of these places? Sure there's other ppl posting dead mall stuff, but we're all here to see you cuz we dig ur style of content, and w/o Sal, they're jus not the same. Take care of yourself, Sal, cuz we care. 😷 😬 😉👍
The respirator is always in my truck. It was stupid to go in there without it, I agree. I’ll heed your advice next time, friend!
Turn it into a prison so we can make more money off prisoners
Wanna come back to our dumb little city sometime? Boulevard Mall just went dead and the Galleria probably won’t be far behind.
First “Supermall” in 1989? Total BS. I live in Houston and we have The Galleria which was built in 1970 with double the square footage of said “First Supermall”.
This is the only dead mall in the Buffalo metro area still open to the public.
Your ability to provide so much information on each show and tell the story so smoothly flawlessly!!! Thanks !
Thank you for the kind words!! Next episode is already in production!
And eventually north lake mall in charolette Nc it’s not dead but going down hill after some crime
Also see if you can check out golden east crossing mall in rocky mount Nc it’s not completely dead but it’s getting there
You need to if you haven’t already checked out signal hill mall in Statesville Nc the mall is closed but you need to get over there before it’s all torn down but it’s not fully torn down they are only tearing down the interior not exterior
When I was a kid the wall with the white wood paneling was where the Eye Masters was located. My mom got glasses from there when I was a kid.
I didn't catch the live, but pretty sure I could still smell it from NY.
the Amazing Place you can tell was an EB Games, still sporting the ole Purple and Green trim.
I was in the Surf Cincinnati commercial that you so awesomely featured in this video. I was 14 back then. What a blast from the past! 😮🎉
Update on Sunrise Mall 7:13 I was on the top and bottom deck of the Macy's store recently, and they had red rope flimsy covering the entrance to the mall and know this no one is allowed inside the mall just the retail stores that somehow still exist here T.O.W 3:51 PM EST
Does anyone remember Farrell's Ice Cream parlour/restaurant when the mall first opened in '73? Former Massapequan here, the mall he walked through did not look anything as I remember it back in the '70's/'80's. Yes, Macy's was there but what about Spenser's with the black light posters, the gaming room with the pacman, etc machines across from Sbarro's pizza and the Health spa/gym next door. Also, the cinemas? Times do change... but not always for the better! Well, Jolly Roger's is gone, as is my childhood! Go Chiefs!!!
Out parcel? Dude, your Columbia is showing!!
Dude…a pay phone with what looks like an actual phone book @5:56 really retro!
